Pioneering Light Therapy for Macular Degeneration
Approximately 39,800 people are affected by AMD with 663 new cases per million people being reported every year. Being a leading cause of blindness in adults over 65, dry AMD is a slowly deteriorating condition but LumiThera have developed the Valeda™ Light Delivery System to aid those affected by this condition.
This office-based treatment using photobiomodulation can be carried out by Mr Sachdev here at Optimyze and is promising treatment in halting progression and potentially improving vision with dry macular degeneration and possibly other retinal disorders.
Mr Sachdev was the first clinician in the North West to offer state-of-the-art light therapy for dry macular degeneration, which is currently the only approved option for people with this
progressive condition.
The non-invasive light therapy offers patients at early/intermediate stages of the disease the potential to reduce the chances of sight loss in the future. This is particularly relevant in
patients with a family history of the condition. Early diagnosis and treatment of the disease are key, so Mr. Sachdev uses the latest, most advanced imaging techniques to pick-up sight
problems at the earliest opportunity. This also enables him to monitor his patients carefully over the course of their treatment, ensuring the best possible outcome.
